Food shopping in Cadaqués: the four supermarkets, their opening hours and what changes in winter

Cadaqués has four supermarkets, according to the Ajuntament directory: Condis, Spar, Novavenda and Alimentació Montserrat. The Condis opens Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 21:00; the one on the Riera opens all year, Monday to Saturday from 8:15 to 20:45 and Sunday from 8:30 to 14:30 (checked in October 2026).

If you are spending a week or more in Cadaqués, food shopping stops being a detail and becomes part of the day. The town has four supermarkets, a Monday market and a fish auction at the harbour; for a big stock-up, Roses and Figueres are on the other side of the winding road. This is what there is and when it opens.

The four supermarkets in town

The services directory on the Ajuntament de Cadaqués tourism website lists four supermarkets: the Condis at Avinguda Caritat Serinyana, 12; Novavenda, on the same avenue; the Spar at Riera de Sant Vicenç, 8; and Alimentació Montserrat, on Camí de Portlligat, 22. There is no hypermarket on the edge of town: these are village shops, spread between the entrance to the town and the centre.

The one on the Riera also appears in the same directory as the Valvi supermarket, with a fish counter inside, and the Valvi group lists it among its supermarkets with the same address on the Riera and the same phone number. In other words, the Spar and the Valvi on the Riera are the same shop: if a local mentions the Valvi, this is the one they mean.

Opening hours, checked in October 2026

The Condis opens Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 21:00, according to the shop's page on the Condis website. For Sunday, the page shows both a 9:00 to 14:30 slot and the word ‘Cerrado’ (closed), so it is best not to count on it on a Sunday without checking first. The same page lists home delivery and online ordering through CondisLine, which is handy if you arrive without a car and with the week ahead of you.

The supermarket on the Riera, according to the Valvi website, opens all year round: Monday to Saturday from 8:15 to 20:45 and Sunday from 8:30 to 14:30. It is the only one of the four with Sunday hours published without any ambiguity, which makes it the one that saves Sunday morning.

We have not found opening hours published by Novavenda or Alimentació Montserrat themselves, so we do not give any. The most reliable thing is to walk past on your first day and read the sign on the door.

Monday is market day; every morning, the harbour

For fruit and vegetables the day is Monday, with the weekly market on the Riera de Sant Vicenç; hours and rules are in the Monday market. It is a genuine locals’ market: in early October 2025 the village school wrote on its website that the infant classes had gone to the market to buy autumn fruit and then tasted it.

Fish comes two ways. One is the fish counter in the supermarket on the Riera, which the town directory places inside the shop. The other is the harbour and its morning auction, covered in the Cadaqués fish auction. And breakfast bread has its own story at Pastisseria Quer.

How to organise a week’s shopping

For stays of a week or more, splitting it up works. Dry goods, water and anything heavy from the supermarket on the first day; fresh food on Monday at the market and in small shops through the week.

Bear the streets in mind. The old town is paved with rastell, slate set on edge, and it climbs and drops constantly (why it is like that); with heavy bags, a folding shopping trolley helps more than any car boot. And if you drive on a Monday, remember that the market area is closed to traffic during the morning.

In winter: fewer people, the same town

Cadaqués changes size a great deal over the year. According to the Idescat estimate set out in how many people live in Cadaqués, between January and March there are on average about 3,760 people in town and in the summer quarter about 8,650.

What we can say with a source is that the supermarket on the Riera states on the Valvi website that its season is ‘tot l’any’, all year round, with the same hours. For everything else, restaurants and shops that close for weeks or open only at weekends, the advice in Cadaqués in winter holds: check place by place, and by phone rather than online.

The big shop, in Roses or Figueres

To stock up in one go, the alternative lies along the road out of town. In Roses there is a Condis at Gran Via Pau Casals, 178, which according to its page opens Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 21:00, and a Valvi at Carrer Francesc Macià, 42, which according to the group’s website opens all year, Monday to Saturday from 8:30 to 14:30 and from 16:30 to 21:00, and Sunday from 9:00 to 14:00. In Figueres, the Condis on Plaça del Gra, 3, opens Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 21:00 and lists no Sunday hours.

You can do it without a car too, although the way back with bags is heavy going. Moventis line 12 links the Cadaqués bus station with Roses and Figueres: on the timetable running from 1 September to 31 December 2026, the 6:45 bus reaches Roses bus station at 7:15 and Figueres station at 7:55. The timetable uses colours to tell daily, weekday and weekend services apart, so check it first.
