Only two roads leave the village

To understand what is near Cadaqués you have to start with the road. According to the Cadaqués tourist office, there are two ways in: the GI-614, which you join before entering Roses and which ends in Cadaqués itself, and the GI-613, which starts at the entrance to El Port de la Selva. Everything else is measured from one of those two gateways.

There is a third route, the Jòncols track between Cadaqués and Roses, but only on foot or by bike: no vehicles are allowed. The road distances in this article are the ones published by that same tourist office.

A stroll away: Portlligat

The closest place is not even another village. Portlligat, the fishing harbour of Cadaqués, is signposted 1.5 km from the ring road at the entrance, and Salvador Dalí lived there. How to get there on foot, by car or by boat is in this guide.

To the north: El Port de la Selva, La Selva de Mar and Llançà

El Port de la Selva is 13 km from Cadaqués on the GI-613, about 20 minutes according to the tourist office. What to see there is in our El Port de la Selva guide.

From El Port de la Selva, the GIV-6121 climbs to the edge of La Selva de Mar. The Cap de Creus Natural Park suggests a short loop there, 3.5 km and 1 h 15 min, past the defence towers still standing in the Plaça del Camp de l'Obra and the Plaça de la Constitució, and past the village wash house and springs.

At the La Selva de Mar junction you also take the local road up to the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, at about 520 metres on the Verdera mountain, according to El Port de la Selva Town Council. Opening times and tickets are in our monastery guide.

Llançà lies on the other way in, which the tourist office describes along the N-260 «towards Llançà and Port de la Selva». The park has a water route there that starts at the Llançà tourist office, takes in the medieval remains of the centre, including the bell tower of the Romanesque church of Sant Vicenç, and returns along the GR-11.

To the south: Roses, Palau-saverdera, Pau and Vilajuïga

Roses is 18 km away on the GI-614, and the coves of Montjoi and Jóncols are within its boundaries: in 2026, from 1 July to 31 August, car access to them was regulated from 9:30 to 16:00 at the Torre del Sastre, according to the park's access page. Making the trip between the two towns without a car has its own guides: on foot along the coastal path and by boat.

Seven town councils sit on the park's governing board: Cadaqués, El Port de la Selva, La Selva de Mar, Roses and three small villages: Palau-saverdera, Pau and Vilajuïga. Palau-saverdera and Vilajuïga are reached from the GI-610 road, according to the park's route sheets.

In Palau-saverdera, the park suggests climbing to the hermitage of Sant Onofre past the Muntanya d'en Caselles dolmen and the Mas Ventós picnic area, with views over the bay of Roses. In Pau, a circular route links four dolmens, reaches the Creu Blanca, an old boundary cross, and uses the old path from Pau to Sant Pere de Rodes. In Vilajuïga, on the Passeig de Catalunya, you will find the park's offices and information point.

No official source we found gives the exact distance from Cadaqués to these three villages, so we do not quote one: check the map before setting off.

Further afield: Figueres, Púbol, Girona and the border

Figueres is 33 km away. The tourist office reckons on about 50 minutes from Figueres to Cadaqués, and high-speed trains stop there, at Figueres-Vilafant station. The town is home to the Dalí Theatre-Museum, opened in 1974, which according to the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation holds the largest collection of the artist's work. Tickets and opening times are in this guide.

Púbol, with the Gala Dalí Castle, is 84 km away (castle guide); Girona, 72 km; and across the border, Perpignan, 94 km, a good deal closer than Barcelona, which is 177 km away.

The ruins of Empúries and the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà wetlands have their own guides: Empúries from Cadaqués and the Aiguamolls. And if you are after ideas for a whole day rather than distances, they are in day trips from Cadaqués.
