In September Cadaqués has an average high of 27.3 °C and an average low of 16.7 °C according to the Meteocat station at Roses (2016-2025), and the sea closed September 2026 with an average of 24.5 °C at L'Estartit. The summer festival falls in the week of the Diada, 11 September, and the daily closure of the lighthouse road ends on the 13th.
September is the month when Cadaqués goes back to its normal size without stopping being summer. The water is at its warmest of the year after August, the village holds its main festival and, halfway through the month, several timetables change at once. Here is what the official data say about the weather, the sea, the festivals and those changes, for anyone who already has their dates and wants to know what to expect.

What the weather is like: the Meteocat data
The Catalan Meteorological Service has no automatic weather station in Cadaqués; the nearest one is at Roses. Using its daily data for every September from 2016 to 2025, the average high comes out at 27.3 °C and the average low at 16.7 °C. The Cadaqués tourism website points out that the Pení mountain cuts the village off from the rest of the Alt Empordà and gives it a climate of its own: treat these figures as a guide.
There is not much rain, but it comes all at once. At Roses, September has brought anything from 2 mm (2018) to 92 mm (2019), with an average of 47 mm and about five days with at least one millimetre.
The tramontana blows less than in autumn. Counting the days with northerly gusts of 50 km/h or more at that station, September averages 3.6: none in 2023 and seven in 2024. What to do on those days is in the tramontana guide.
The sea: the warmest of the year after August
Meteocat publishes the sea temperature at L'Estartit, measured by the observer Josep Pascual with the Institut de Ciències del Mar near the Medes Islands. It is not Cadaqués, but it is the nearest official reference. In September 2026 the monthly surface average was 24.5 °C, after 26.5 °C in August; in September 2025 it was 22.2 °C.
With those figures, swimming is a given; what decides is the wind: a tramontana day churns up the bay and cools the shallows. The village beaches, one by one, are in this guide.
The summer festival and the Diada on the 11th
According to the tourism website, the summer festival always falls in the week of 11 September, Catalonia's national day. In 2026 it ran from the 4th to the 11th. It began on Friday the 4th at 9:00 with the Catalan flag hung from the Baluard tower and carried on that night with havaneres at Portdoguer and rom cremat served by the Amics de la Vela Llatina; the story of those songs is in the havaneres guide.
Saturday the 5th brought the most local part: the giants Abdon and Lídia and the doll display at the entrance to the village, followed by the doll race along the seafront. Sunday the 6th had the festival mass and sardanes. What a doll is and why people race with one is told in the festival guide.
11 September, the Diada, is a public holiday across Catalonia according to the Generalitat's official calendar; in 2026 it fell on a Friday. In Cadaqués it was marked with the 32nd Marxa a Cap de Creus, a walk leaving the seafront at 8:00 (€5, including a T-shirt and breakfast), sardanes at midday and in the evening, and the closing firecrackers of the festival. On that same day the Empúries ruins are free to enter.
The rest of the month
The September 2026 programme also included the Marnatón on Saturday the 19th, an open-water swim starting and finishing in Cadaqués with three routes of 6.5, 4.5 and 2.5 km; guitar concerts in the church on several Wednesdays, with tickets at €15; the Josep Pla walk around the bay on the 13th, and an artists' and craft fair at Portdoguer on the 26th.
Two late-summer events do not fall in September: the lateen sail gathering was on 22 August in 2026 (here is its story), and the music festival takes place in August. The programme changes every year: check the tourism events page.

And if your trip runs into October
October is different: at Roses the average high drops to 23.0 °C, there is more rain and the lighthouse road closes at weekends. The rest is in Cadaqués in October.
