Cadaqués in October: the weather, the sea and what is still open

In October Cadaqués has an average high of 23.0 °C and an average low of 13.6 °C according to the Meteocat station at Roses (2016-2025), and the sea was at 21.1 °C on 15 October 2026 at L'Estartit. The Salvador Dalí House in Portlligat opens every day from 10:30 to 18:00 until 31 October, and the lighthouse road is closed at weekends.

October is the month Cadaqués empties without shutting down. Dalí's house still opens every day, the water keeps some of the summer's warmth, and the lighthouse road is only closed at weekends. Here is what the official figures say about the weather, the sea and opening hours, for anyone who already has their dates and wants to know what they'll find.

What the weather is like: the Meteocat figures

The Catalan Meteorological Service (Meteocat) has no automatic station in Cadaqués; the nearest in its network is at Roses. Taking its daily data for every October from 2016 to 2025, the average high comes out at 23.0 °C and the average low at 13.6 °C. The Cadaqués tourism website points out that the village, cut off from the rest of the Alt Empordà by the Pení mountain, has a climate of its own: treat these figures as a guide.

Rain is the least predictable part. At Roses, October has brought anything from 8 mm (2022) to 222 mm (2018), with an average of 72 mm and about five days with at least a millimetre of rain.

The tramontana turns up too. Counting days with northerly gusts of 50 km/h or more at that station, October averages about five, though it varies a lot from year to year: twelve in 2018 and none at all in 2022 or 2023. What to do on those days is in the tramontana guide.

Can you swim?

Meteocat publishes the sea temperature from L'Estartit, measured by the observer Josep Pascual with the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) near the Medes Islands. It isn't Cadaqués, but it is the nearest official reference. On 15 October 2026 the surface water was at 21.1 °C, against an average of 19.3 °C for that day (1998-2022).

With the water above 19 °C, an October swim is perfectly reasonable for anyone used to the Mediterranean. The wind is what decides it: a tramontana day churns up the bay and takes away any wish to go in; a calm day at midday is another matter. The village beaches, one by one, are in this guide.

The light and the clocks going back

The clocks go back an hour on the last Sunday in October, as set by Royal Decree 236/2002 (in 2026 that's the 25th), and from that Sunday the afternoon suddenly ends an hour earlier. Exact sunrise and sunset times are in the guide to sunrise and sunset at Cap de Creus.

What is still open, and when

The Salvador Dalí House in Portlligat opens every day from 10:30 to 18:00 between 14 September and 31 October, according to the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation website (checked in October 2026). Last entry is 40 minutes before closing and booking is always required. In 2026 the house closed as an exception on 5 October, so it's worth checking that year's calendar before you book.

The Museu de Cadaqués, on Narcís Monturiol street, changes its exhibition with the season; at the moment it shows photographs of Dalí taken by his carpenter and friend Joan Vehí. Out of season, according to the tourism website, it opens Monday and Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 17:30 and Sunday from 11:00 to 14:00, and is closed on Tuesday.

The tourist office, on Cotxe street, opens in October from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 18:00, and on Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00. Up at the lighthouse, the Espai Cap de Creus, on the geology and nature of the cape, opens every day from 10:00 to 15:00 in October and November.

The lighthouse road: weekends by shuttle bus

In 2026 the road from Cadaqués to the Cap de Creus lighthouse was closed to cars and motorbikes in October at weekends and on 12 October, from 9:30 to 19:00: on the 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 17th, 18th, 24th, 25th and 31st, according to the Natural Park website. Its FAQ document, dated 28 August, left out the 12th: if in doubt, go by the website.

On closure days you go up by shuttle bus from the free Corral d'en Morell car park, with 120 spaces. According to the park's timetable for Saturdays and Sundays from 19 September to 1 November, the first bus leaves at 8:00 and the last at 18:30, every half hour. A return ticket costs €7 and a single €4. You can always walk or cycle up; the details are in the closed-road guide.

What goes on in October

October has no main festival: the summer one falls in the week of 11 September and the winter one is on 18 December. But the village doesn't stop. The tourism agenda for October 2026 included an attic-clearing flea market on the seafront, Buidem ses golfes, on the 4th; guitar concerts in the church on Wednesday the 7th, 14th and 21st; an artists' and craftspeople's fair at Portdoguer on the 10th; and the Swimrun Cap de Creus on the 24th.

The programme changes every year: the tourism website's agenda is the thing to check before you come.

And if your trip falls in November

November is a different story. At Roses, from 2016 to 2025, the average high drops to 17.8 °C and the low to 8.6 °C, and days with northerly gusts of 50 km/h or more rise to about eight. From 1 November Dalí's house opens Tuesday to Sunday, the tourist office closes on Sundays, and in 2026 the lighthouse road was closed only on the 1st. The rest is in Cadaqués in winter.

The averages are our own calculation from the official daily data for 2016 to 2025.
