If it rains in Cadaqués, the best options are Dalí's house at Portlligat, booked ahead and bearing in mind that the olive grove and courtyards are outdoors; the Museu de Cadaqués; the church of Santa Maria; and the galleries on carrer de la Unió. If it rains all day, the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, about 40 km away.
If it rains in Cadaqués, the plan is Dalí's house at Portlligat, booked ahead, the Museu de Cadaqués, the church of Santa Maria and the galleries of the old town; and if the whole day is a washout, the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, about 40 km away. Here is which part of each visit is under a roof and what the autumn opening hours are. If it is wind rather than rain, the plan is different: see [the tramontana guide](/blog/tramontana-cadaques-que-hacer-cuando-sopla).

Dalí's house: mostly indoors, but not all of it
The Casa-Museu at Portlligat is the first choice and also the one that needs the most planning. The Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí divides the house into three areas: the Dalís' private life, in rooms 1 to 5 and 8 to 13; the studio, in rooms 6 and 7; and the outdoor spaces, the olive grove and the courtyards, numbered 14 to 20. In the rain the inside looks just as good; the outside gets wet.
You always have to book a day and time, and the Fundació warns that it makes no changes or refunds for reasons beyond the museums' control: rain does not entitle you to swap your ticket. There is also an olive-grove-only ticket, at 8 €, which makes little sense on a wet day.
Opening hours checked in October 2026: from 14 September to 31 October it opens every day from 10:30 to 18:00, and from 1 November to 31 December, Tuesday to Sunday with the same hours, with special openings on 9 November and 7 December. Last entry is 40 minutes before closing. How to get a slot is in the tickets guide, and what you see inside in the house from the inside.
In the village: the museum and the church
The Museu de Cadaqués, on Narcís Monturiol street, runs temporary exhibitions linked to the village. According to the tourist office, it is currently showing photographs of Dalí taken by his carpenter and friend Joan Vehí. Out of season it opens on Monday and from Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 17:30, on Sunday from 11:00 to 14:00, and closes on Tuesday; the same website warns that hours change with the year and the exhibition. More in the museum guide.
At the very top is the church of Santa Maria, which the tourist office says is open every day. Inside, two things deserve time: the 23-metre Baroque altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin of Hope and the organ Josep Boscà built between 1689 and 1691, one of the oldest in Catalonia. There is Mass on Sunday at 10, so go at another time. How to get up there and what you see is in the church guide.
On the way up, carrer des Call has the best-preserved rastell, the paving of stones set on edge which, according to the tourist office, is designed to soak up water and stop people slipping. Even so, with smooth soles on a wet slope, take it slowly. Why it is laid that way is in the rastell guide.
Galleries and workshops, door to door
The tourist office publishes a list of galleries and workshops, and several are on the same street, carrer de la Unió, at numbers 3, 9, 12 and 14. On carrer Hort d'en Sanés you will find the Galería Cadaqués, at 7, and the workshop behind the Mini Print competition, at 9.
A gallery is not a museum: each sets its own hours and the official list does not publish them, so if you are heading for a particular one, ring first. What does work in the rain is a short walk from one to the next through the old town. The stories are in the gallery that brought Duchamp and Mini Print.
The same list includes the Societat Recreativa l'Amistat, the village casino, on carrer des Cotxe. Its history is in the casino guide.
If it rains all day: Figueres
When the day is grey from morning to night, the big plan is the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres. The Fundació reckons on about 40 km between its museums, and Figueres is that distance from Portlligat. The museum rose from the ruins of the old municipal theatre and opened on 28 September 1974.
Two pieces sum it up. Above the old stage, the transparent geodesic dome designed by Emilio Pérez Piñero, now the museum's best-known image. And in the central courtyard, where the theatre's stalls used to be, the Cadillac known as the Rainy Taxi.
Opening hours checked in October 2026: from 1 October to 31 December it opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30 to 18:00; it closes on Monday, apart from special openings such as 9 November and 7 December. General admission starts at 18.50 €. How to combine it with Portlligat and Púbol is in the Dalí triangle.
And out on the cape, the lighthouse from the inside
There is a lesser-known indoor option: the Espai Cap de Creus, inside the lighthouse, an exhibition space on the geology, plants and animals of the cape. The tourist office says that in October and November it opens every day from 10:00 to 15:00. To get there, check first how to reach the lighthouse.
