elBulli1846 tickets are bought on the foundation's website, choosing a day and time: in 2026 a standard ticket cost 27.50 € and a reduced one 20.50 €. It is no longer a restaurant but a museum at Cala Montjoi, in Roses. The 2026 season ended on 12 October and the 2027 dates will be announced in mid-March.
Anyone searching for elBulli1846 tickets usually gets two surprises. First, it is no longer a restaurant: nobody eats at Cala Montjoi now. Second, it only opens for part of the year. The 2026 season ended on 12 October and the foundation will announce the 2027 dates in mid-March, so the useful thing right now is to understand how it works and be ready when sales open.
What elBulli1846 is today
Ferran Adrià's foundation describes it as the first restaurant in the world to become a museum. It opened as such on 15 June 2023 in the original elBulli building, according to the Catalan Wikipedia, which also explains the name: 1846 is the number of recipes made at the restaurant, and it is also the year the chef Auguste Escoffier was born.
It covers nearly four thousand square metres (2,500 outdoors and 1,300 indoors) with sixty-nine installations spread across four areas. First, an open-air route with reflections on what cooking and creating mean. Then the historic building, which housed the restaurant for 50 years and has been kept intact: you walk into the dining room and the kitchen. Next, a space on what elBulli learned from journalists, designers, scientists and artists, with a viewing window onto the Cap de Creus Natural Park. Finally, a multi-purpose space shaped like a rock.
The foundation is blunt about it in its FAQs: there is no restaurant and no lunches or dinners. Inside the grounds you may only drink water, except in the designated area. If what you want is to eat the cooking of the people who once ran those stoves, Cadaqués has Compartir; and the story of its oldest customer is in our guide to Richard Hamilton and elBulli.
When it opens
In 2026 it opened from 1 May to 12 October, Tuesday to Saturday with some exceptions, from 10:00 to 15:00, with last entry at 12:00. The visit takes about 2 and a half hours, and the museum advises checking its opening calendar before you go. For 2027, its website says the season is being planned and that dates and times will be published in mid-March.
The rest of the year the place does not sit idle: the foundation explains that outside the museum season it becomes elBulliDNA, its research lab.
Tickets: how to book and what they cost
Tickets are bought on the foundation's website, choosing a day and time. They arrive by email as a PDF and work printed or on your phone. There is a 15-minute margin around your booked time, and changes or refunds are only accepted within 24 hours of purchase. There is also a ticket office on site, but it adds 2.50 € per ticket.
Prices for the 2026 season: standard, 27.50 €; reduced, 20.50 €, for over-65s, students, Carnet Jove holders, under-16s, Roses residents, groups of 10 or more and people with a disability of 33 % or more. Under-11s from the same family unit go free, as does the companion of a person with a disability of 50 % or more, with proof. The guided visit costs 47.50 € (40.50 € reduced and 20 € for under-11s). Whether 2027 brings different prices remains to be seen.
The ticket includes a free multimedia guide that you listen to on your own phone, in Spanish, Catalan, English and French. Bring headphones; otherwise they are sold in the shop, and if you have no phone they will lend you a device.
Getting there from Cadaqués
Cala Montjoi lies within the municipality of Roses, inside the Cap de Creus Natural Park. From Cadaqués you first go down to Roses: the road to the cove leaves from the town centre, on Avinguda Gran Via Pau Casals, and it is 7.5 km to the museum. Without a car, Moventis line 12 takes 28 minutes from Cadaqués bus station to the Gran Via Pau Casals stop, according to its timetable for 1 September to 31 December 2026.
By car, the museum has its own car park, and you can only drive up to it if you booked a space with your ticket (8.50 € extra) or pay for one at the entrance, subject to availability; the maximum stay is 3 hours. Motorbikes and bicycles park free. In July and August the road is closed to cars for much of the day: the museum's visit page gives 9:30 to 16:00 and its FAQs give 10:30 to 16:00. With a ticket you get through by showing your proof of purchase at the checkpoint.
You can also walk in along the coastal path, the same one we describe in Roses to Cadaqués on foot, or come by sea and rent a mooring buoy: the cove has no jetty.
Worth knowing before you go
You may not go in wearing swimwear or barefoot, and rucksacks and luggage go into the lockers, which measure 45 by 40 cm. Animals are not allowed except guide or assistance dogs. Photos without flash and for personal use only. Under-16s must always be with an adult.
Part of the route is outdoors and the visit is not called off for rain, wind or fog unless conditions are genuinely dangerous, so the museum asks you to bring clothes for the heat or a raincoat and umbrella, depending on the day. The museum is accessible via paths and ramps, and lends wheelchairs if you ask in advance.

Prices and times are for 2026; those for 2027 have not yet been published.
