In June, Cadaqués has summer heat and a swimmable sea: at Roses, the nearest Meteocat station, the average high for 2016 to 2025 is 29.0 °C and the average low 17.9 °C; it rains on around four days, and the water at L'Estartit averaged about 21.8 °C in June 2026.
June is the month Cadaqués changes gear. The water becomes swimmable, Dalí's house stretches its opening hours halfway through the month, and on the night of the 23rd the village welcomes the flame from the Canigó and lights a bonfire by the sea. This is what the official weather and sea data say, and what happens in the village, for anyone who has already booked their dates.
The weather: Meteocat's figures
Catalonia's weather service, the Meteocat, has no automatic station in Cadaqués; the nearest in its network is at Roses. Using its daily data for every June from 2016 to 2025, the average high comes out at 29.0 °C and the average low at 17.9 °C. The Cadaqués tourism website points out that the village, facing the sea and cut off from the rest of the Alt Empordà by the mountain of Pení, has a climate of its own: treat these as a guide, not a thermometer on the seafront.
June already brings properly hot days. The record at that station is 40.9 °C, on 28 June 2019, and June 2025 had six days of 35 °C or more. It rarely rains: an average of 23 mm for the month and around four days with at least a millimetre, ranging from barely 1 mm in 2025 to 48 mm in 2016.
The tramontana eases off. Counting days with northerly gusts of 50 km/h or more at Roses, June averages about three; no June in the series had more than five. If you catch one, the tramontana guide explains what it feels like and what to do.
The sea: is it warm enough to swim?
The nearest official reference is the sea temperature the Meteocat publishes for L'Estartit, measured by observer Josep Pascual with the Institut de Ciències del Mar about two miles off the harbour, near the Medes islands.
On the Meteocat's annual charts, the June surface average was 21.8 °C in 2026 and 22.5 °C in 2025, against 18.7 °C in May 2026. With the water above 21 °C, June is the first month of the year when a swim stops being a test of nerve. The village beaches, one by one, are in this guide.
The night of Sant Joan
June's big celebration is Sant Joan's Eve, on the 23rd. In 2026 the programme on the tourism website was the same as in 2025: at 18:50, the Flama del Canigó is welcomed at the entrance to the village; at 19:30, sardanas on the seafront promenade with the Els Rossinyolets band; at 23:00, the bonfire at Es Portell de Sa Riera; and at midnight, the Sant Joan dance on the promenade.
The Flama is a fire that, according to Òmnium Cultural, has been kept alight all year round at the Museu de la Casa Pairal in Perpignan since 1955. On 22 June a group of hikers carries it to the summit of the Canigó, keeps watch over it through the night and starts bringing it down at dawn so it reaches the towns in time to light their bonfires. In Cadaqués, that night's bonfire is lit from the same fire.
The 24th is a public holiday throughout Catalonia. In 2027 it falls on a Thursday, according to the official calendar of public holidays set by Ordre EMT/52/2026.
The month's other dates
Early in June comes the Fira d'Indians, which the tourism website presents as «An American in Cadaqués», in memory of the villagers who went to seek their fortune in the Americas; in 2026 it was on 6 and 7 June, and in 2025 on 14 and 15 June. The story of those returning emigrants is in the Casa Blaua guide.
In June 2026 the calendar also brought guitar concerts in the church on Wednesday 3, 10, 17 and 24 at 21:00, with tickets at €15; the Buidem ses golfes second-hand market on the promenade on Sunday 14, from 9:00 to 17:00; and an artists' and craftspeople's fair at Portdoguer on the 20th. On Sunday 28 the Cadaqués Music Festival opened with El Messies in the church. It changes every year: the tourism website's calendar is what to check.
What changes in mid-June
The Casa Salvador Dalí at Portlligat opens every day from 10:30 to 18:00 until 14 June and, from 15 June to 13 September, from 9:30 to 20:00, according to the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí (checked in October 2026). Booking is always required. In 2026 it closed exceptionally on 8 June, so it is worth checking the year's calendar.
The Espai Cap de Creus, in the lighthouse, opens from 10:00 to 15:00 until 20 June and from 10:00 to 18:00 from the 21st. The tourist office on Carrer Cotxe moves to its summer hours in mid-June: Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 21:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00.
The lighthouse road in June
In 2026 the road from Cadaqués to the Cap de Creus lighthouse was closed to cars and motorbikes on 6, 7, 13 and 14 June, and every day from the 20th to the 30th, from 9:30 to 21:30, according to the Natural Park. On those days you go up by shuttle from the free Corral d'en Morell car park, with 120 spaces, between 8:00 and 23:00; a return ticket costs €7 and a single €4. On foot and by bike the road is always open: the details are in the guide to the closed road.
