Residents of the city of Barcelona get a 50% discount at the Sagrada Família in 2026, but those tickets cannot be bought online or at the ticket office: you request them by email, attaching a photocopy of your DNI or padrón registration. Without paying, you can attend the international mass on Sundays at 9:00.
People in Barcelona for a weekend book their Sagrada Família tickets weeks ahead and visit once. People staying a few months have other options: going in for a mass without paying, coming back in another season to see a different light, or paying half price if they can prove they live in the city. This guide sets out what changes when the basilica stops being an outing and becomes the building you pass on your way to the metro.

What changed in 2026: the Tower of Jesus Christ
If you arrived in Barcelona recently, the skyline you see is not the one in photos from a few years ago. On 10 June 2026, the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death, Pope Leo XIV presided over a solemn mass in the basilica and blessed the Tower of Jesus Christ. At 172.5 metres it is the highest point of the church. Its construction began on 16 October 2018, at a height of 85 metres, and it is surrounded by the four towers of the Evangelists and the tower of the Virgin Mary.
The work goes on: the basilica itself tells its history as a project that continues. In 1882 the first design was drawn up by Francisco de Paula del Villar; in 1883 Gaudí took over the commission, combining it with other work. In 1891 work began on the Nativity façade, the one you see from Plaça de Gaudí. When Gaudí died, in 1926, his pupil Domènec Sugranyes took charge. In 2005 the Nativity façade and the crypt were added to the Unesco World Heritage list, and on 7 November 2010 Pope Benedict XVI dedicated the church to worship.
Half price if you can prove you live in the city
Throughout 2026, from 1 January to 31 December and subject to availability, people who can prove they are residents of the city of Barcelona get a 50% discount on the general rate of four tickets: the basilica, the basilica with towers, the basilica with a guided tour, and the basilica with towers and a guided tour.
The process is not the usual one. These tickets cannot be bought online or at the ticket office: you request them by email at resident@ext.sagradafamilia.org, attaching proof of residence, which can be a photocopy of your DNI or of your padrón registration. You show that proof again on the day of the visit. Tickets are personal and non-transferable, a booking can hold up to nine, the person booking must be one of the visitors, and companions must also prove they live in the city. It cannot be combined with other discounts and, as a general rule, changes and refunds are not allowed; exceptions are requested at the same address at least 48 hours in advance.
For someone here for a few months, the practical upshot is clear: if you register on the padrón, your padrón certificate is your proof. If not, you pay the general rate like any other visitor. And since the offer is dated 2026, check whether it is renewed before counting on it next year.
What it costs without the discount
Individual ticket prices published by the basilica: 26 euros for the basilica alone, with the audio guide app included; 30 euros with a guided tour; 36 euros with towers; and 40 euros with a guided tour and towers. People under 30 and student card holders pay 24 euros for the basic ticket, and seniors pay 21. Children under 11 and people with disabilities go in free.
Going in without a ticket: the international mass
There is a way to see the nave without paying that few short-stay visitors use: mass. The archdiocese holds an international mass every Sunday and holy day of obligation at 9:00, and another every Saturday at 20:00. Entry is free, with limited capacity, through the Nativity façade on carrer de la Marina. The basilica asks for respectful behaviour and decent dress, and groups of more than 25 people must fill in a form before coming.
It is not a tourist visit: you don't wander around, you don't climb towers, and you go for what it is. But for someone who lives nearby and wants to see the light come through the stained glass on a Saturday evening, it is the simplest way to do it.
Opening hours: the light changes with the months
From November to February it opens Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays from 10:30 to 18:00. In March and October, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 19:00, Saturdays from 9:00 to 18:00 and Sundays from 10:30 to 19:00. From April to September, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 20:00, Saturdays from 9:00 to 18:00 and Sundays from 10:30 to 20:00. On 25 and 26 December and 1 and 6 January it opens from 9:00 to 14:00.
Management can change the hours because of events inside, and it sometimes closes: in mid-October 2026 the website announced a temporary closure due to bad weather. If you live in the city, the useful habit is to check the website on the day before leaving home.
Getting there
The metro station is called Sagrada Família and is served by L2 and L5. Buses 19, 33, 34, D50, H10 and B24 stop nearby.
