Tickets for the Ecomuseo Minero Valle de Samuño are sold on its website or at the ticket office at El Cadavíu Station, until 10 minutes before the train if seats remain. Adults pay €11, children aged 4 to 11 pay €4 and the family ticket costs €26. The visit takes about 2 hours.
A visit to the Ecomuseo Minero Valle de Samuño, in Langreo, always starts in the same place: El Cadavíu Station, where the mining train sets off. What changes is the calendar, because the number of trains depends heavily on the season. These are the practical details as the Ecomuseo publishes them, checked in October 2026.

How to buy tickets
There are two ways. The first is the Ecomuseo website, under Tarifas y condiciones, which leads to a booking system where you choose the day and train time. The second is the ticket office at El Cadavíu Station: tickets are sold there until 10 minutes before the train leaves, but only if seats remain.
That last condition matters. The train carries a maximum of 70 adults per trip, and the Ecomuseo warns that at the busiest times anyone turning up without a booking may not get a seat. If you have booked and are collecting your ticket at the office, you need to be at the station 20 minutes before your train; the booking is held until then.

Prices and concessions
The standard ticket, with the train and guided tour, costs €11 for adults aged 12 to 65. Children aged 4 to 11 pay €4, and babies aged 0 to 3 go free. The reduced rate, €7, is for pensioners, over-65s, students, people with disabilities and the unemployed, and the booking page asks for proof.
There is a family ticket at €26 covering two adults and two children aged 4 to 11. Groups of 20 or more pay €9 a head, and school groups €4. The night visit costs €17 (€12 reduced). If you only want to see the Pozo San Luis, without the train, it is €3.
There is also a Pasaporte Industrial combining the Ecomuseo with the Museo de la Siderurgia (MUSI): €13.5 for adults and €7 for children up to 12.
Train times by season
In high season, from 15 June to 14 September, trains run every day: in the morning at 10:50, 12:00 and 13:10, and in the afternoon at 15:50, 17:00 and 18:10; the 18:10 only runs in July and August. Reception is open from 10:00 to 14:15 and from 15:15 to 20:00, except in June, when it closes at 19:00.
In mid season, which the Ecomuseo sets between 1 March and 31 October (March follows the low-season times), from Wednesday to Friday the train open to everyone is the 12:00; the 10:00 and 11:00 are for groups only, and in the afternoon there are trains at 16:00 and 17:00 on Fridays only, from April. At weekends, on long weekends and on public holidays trains leave at 10:50, 12:00 and 13:10, and at 15:50 and 17:00.
In winter, from 2 January to 28 February and from 1 November to 30 December, trains run on Fridays at 12:00 and 16:00 (the 10:00 and 11:00 are for groups only), and at weekends, on long weekends and on public holidays at 11:00, 12:00 and 16:00. No trains appear in the published timetable on other days. The booking calendar shows the actual departures for each day.
How long it takes and what is included
The visit takes about 2 hours. It includes the train ride from El Cadavíu into the Pozo San Luis, the lift up to the surface, which climbs 32 metres through the shaft, the guided tour of the buildings and the train back.
You can return on any train with seats. According to the booking page, the last train down in the morning leaves at 13:50 and the first in the afternoon at 16:20; in its general conditions the website mentions a train from the pit at 16:30 for those staying for lunch. Many visitors walk back instead, along a 2 km tarmac path with no slope that follows the old coal route to El Cadavíu.
For food, El Chigre del Ecomuseo is inside the pit site, there is a picnic area, and the village of La Nueva has two restaurants.
With children, pushchairs and reduced mobility
The Ecomuseo recommends the visit for families with children. Bear in mind that both the train and the lift are noisy, and that inside the mine the temperature is a constant 14 ºC with high humidity: bring a jacket and comfortable closed shoes, even though the walking part of the guided tour is under 500 metres.
There is a carriage adapted for people with reduced mobility, which cannot take wheelchairs that do not fold, and a compartment with limited space for folded pushchairs. In both cases the Ecomuseo asks you to check before booking. Small and medium-sized pets are allowed, always in a carrier or backpack.
Getting to El Cadavíu
The address is Estación de El Cadavíu, 33909 Ciañu, Langreo. By car, Ciañu is reached on the AS-17 from Oviedo or the AS-1 from Gijón, joining the AS-117. In Ciañu, at the junction near the church, take the turning for La Nueva (LA-7) as far as the Ecomuseo car park.
The station has two car parks with spaces for cars, coaches and motorhomes. Without a car, the local train between Gijón and Laviana stops at Ciañu, and a footpath links Ciaño with El Cadavíu; we explain it in the Nalón valley without a car.
