Tickets and prices

Prices checked in October 2026. A general ticket costs €10 online and €12 at the desk; reduced, €7 and €9, for students over 18 with proof, young people aged 9 to 17, Carnet Jove holders, retired people over 65 and people with a 33% disability and their companion. In July and August it goes up: €12 and €14 general, €8 and €10 reduced.

Free entry for children aged 0 to 8, people with reduced mobility from 33% or who use a wheelchair, any disability from 50%, ICOM members and the Friends of the Dalí Museums. The Fundació recommends booking, especially if you want a guided tour.

There are two ways to have it explained: an introduction of about 20 minutes and a guided tour of about 75 minutes, which must be booked, both led by Fundació staff; days, times and languages change through the year. Until 6 January 2027, the attic hosts the exhibition Dalí/Horst. Miradas cruzadas, on Dalí and the photographer Horst P. Horst. The ticket is not valid for Figueres or Portlligat: how to combine the three houses is in the Dalí triangle.

Getting there from Cadaqués

Púbol is near La Bisbal d'Empordà, towards Girona. The Fundació reckons 40 kilometres between Figueres and Portlligat and another 40 between Figueres and Púbol. By car from Cadaqués, you chain its two sets of directions: the GI-614 and C-260 to Figueres, the AP-7 to exit 6 (Girona Nord) and the C-66 towards Palamós. The castle is in the centre of the village, in a restricted traffic zone, and the public car park is 150 metres away.

Without a car it can be done, but it takes the day. The Fundació warns that no public transport reaches the village. The clearest way is the Moventis bus 12 from Cadaqués to Figueres, the R11 train from Figueres to Flaçà and, from Flaçà, 5 kilometres away, a taxi. The Fundació also mentions Moventis lines 5, 8, 11 and 42, which stop at Cruïlla or Gasolinera, and the on-demand service Clic.cat.

Wheelchair users enter through the gate on calle Fora Muralla, behind the church, and call on the intercom. Every room is adapted except Gala's bathroom, the exhibition room and the crypt.

A castle given as a gift, with conditions

The castle is documented from the 11th century, and what you see today, three floors around a tall, narrow courtyard, dates mostly from the second half of the 14th century and the early 15th. According to the Fundació, Dalí bought it in 1969, keeping a promise he had made to Gala in the thirties. It was in ruins: fallen ceilings, cracks and a half-wild garden. What Gala loved most were the roses, which reminded her of a garden in Crimea where she had spent childhood summers.

They restored it with their friend the master builder Emilio Puignau, and chose not to hide the scars: Dalí asked for a crack in the façade to be left as it was. The house was hers. Dalí wrote that he only visited her with a written invitation in her own hand, and that he was content to paint her ceilings.

What you see: the elephants, the Cadillac and the crypt

Inside, the old kitchen turned into a bathroom, the Hall of Coats of Arms and the Piano Room, with ceilings and walls where Dalí painted false architecture. In the garden, six elephant fountains on stork's legs that seem to march towards the castle and lead to the pool with twenty-seven ceramic heads of Richard Wagner. There is also a fountain with a spout shaped like a monkfish head, which the Fundació links to the monsters of an Italian garden that Dalí adored.

In the garage, room 13, is Dalí's Cadillac: it appears on the castle's page of the Catalan Tourist Board.

And the crypt, in the old Tithe Room. Gala died in 1982 and was buried there. Dalí moved into the castle so as not to be parted from her: Gala's blue bedroom became his, and he set up his last studio, where he worked until 1984. That year, after a fire, he was taken to hospital and never came back. The castle opened to the public in 1996.
