Today the Spotify Camp Nou holds 62,652 spectators, the capacity of phase 1C, whose licence was announced in March 2026. Before that it held 25,991 (phase 1A) and 45,401 (phase 1B). With the 35,000-seat third tier it will go above 100,000; the club speaks of 105,000.

Today the Spotify Camp Nou holds 62,652 spectators. That is the figure set by the latest licence, granted in March 2026, and it is a long way from what the stadium will hold when the works are done. This guide explains how it got here, phase by phase, and what is still to come.

The stadium that was there before

When it opened in 1957, the Camp Nou held 93,053 people, according to the stadium history published by FC Barcelona. A third tier was added in 1982 for the World Cup, and before the end of the century, when standing areas were turned into seats, capacity settled at around 99,000. That is the stadium that began to be pulled down to build the new one; what you can visit today is covered in the half-built Camp Nou.

Phase 1A: Main Stand and South Goal, 25,991 seats

The return began in autumn 2025. On 17 October 2025 the club announced that Barcelona City Council had granted its first occupancy licence, for phase 1A: the Main Stand and the South Goal, with 25,991 seats, 81 of them for people with reduced mobility.

The first test with spectators was an open training session on 7 November 2025, limited to 23,000 people spread across the Main Stand and the South Goal.

Phase 1B: the side stand, 45,401

On 17 November 2025 the club announced the licence for phase 1B, which added the whole side stand and raised capacity to 45,401 spectators. According to the report presented to the members' assembly, that phase brings 129 spaces for people with reduced mobility. With it, the club announced that the match against Athletic Club would be played at the stadium.

Phase 1C: the North Goal, 62,652

The current phase is 1C. On 10 March 2026 the club announced the first occupancy licence for this phase, which opened the North Goal and the first VIP spaces between the first and second tiers: the Pitch Club and Main Hub in the Main Stand, and the Mini Hub in the side stand. Available capacity rose to 62,652 spectators. At the October 2025 assembly a slightly lower figure had been announced, 62,518, with 171 spaces for reduced mobility.

The same licence opened the new supporters' stand in the South Goal, called Gol 1957 after the year the stadium opened. By decision of the club, all 14,000 new North Goal seats went to season-ticket-holding members.

The third tier: when, and how many more

The top part is still missing. When the City Council modified the works and activity licence in July 2025, the club explained that it had two phases: one of up to 62,000 spectators and another that will reach 105,000 once all the work is finished.

According to 3Cat on 12 October 2026, the third tier will hold 35,000 spectators and take total capacity above 100,000. The original idea was to open it in phases this season, but it will open when the team returns to the stadium after the roof is installed, at the end of 2027 or the start of 2028: opening earlier would have meant removing thousands of seats to fit the roof.

The club itself assumes that the 2026/27 season is still one of partial capacity: in its information on this season's pass, published in May 2026, it keeps season-ticket status suspended while the works last and matches are not played at full capacity.

Figures not to mix up

Look up the capacity online and you will find very different numbers, which is why it helps to know where each comes from. 99,354 is the old stadium's figure, still shown on the Spotify Camp Nou page of the club's website (checked in October 2026). 62,652 is what fits today. 105,000 is the final figure the club gave in 2025, and ‘above 100,000’ is how 3Cat puts it.

For anyone spending a few months in Barcelona, the practical upshot is simple: with the third tier still under construction, capacity remains that of phase 1C, and it is wise to check tickets for each match on FC Barcelona's official website before making plans.
