A Consorcio de Transportes de Asturias bus runs from Asturias Airport to Gijón, calling at Avilés and ending at the ALSA bus station: a single ticket costs 9 euros, is paid on board by bank card and the trip takes about 45 minutes. Departures vary by day, so check the Consortium's timetable search.
Asturias Airport is in neither Gijón nor Oviedo: it sits at Santiago del Monte, in the municipality of Castrillón, 40 kilometres from Gijón according to Turismo Asturias. There are three ways to make the trip: bus, taxi and hire car. This is what each one costs and how long it takes, checked in October 2026 on the websites of the Consorcio de Transportes de Asturias, Aena and Turismo Asturias.
The bus: 9 euros and about 45 minutes
The bus between the airport and Gijón is a line of the Consorcio de Transportes de Asturias (CTA), the regional transport consortium. Its timetable search lists it as Aeropuerto-Gijón, with Avilés and Castrillón in brackets, and it is run by Automóviles Luarca; Aena, on the airport's page, points to ALSA for times and fares. In Gijón it ends at the ALSA bus station.
A single ticket costs 9 euros from Gijón and 4.5 from Avilés or Castrillón, according to the Consortium's frequently asked questions, and on these buses you can pay on board with a bank card. Holders of the CONECTA card, the Asturian public transport card, simply tap it when boarding and pay no supplement.
At the airport the stop is listed by the Consortium as «Aeropuerto - Salidas». From there the bus calls at Piedras Blancas, Salinas and the Avilés bus station before reaching Gijón. The Consortium timetable gives 45 minutes end to end; times at the intermediate stops, it warns, are approximate.
How often it runs
Aena sums the service up like this: daily departures from the airport roughly every hour, between 6:00 and 00:00, which may wait up to 15 minutes if the screens show a flight due to land at the bus's departure time.
The Consortium timetable is more precise and changes from day to day. On Sunday 18 October 2026, for example, 29 buses left the airport for Gijón: one at 1:20 in the morning, another at 8:00 and another at 9:00; then every half hour between 10:00 and 20:30, and the last ones at 21:15, 21:45, 22:30 and 23:59. For your own date, use the Consortium's service search, under Aeropuerto: the opposite direction, from Gijón and Avilés to the airport, is there too.
If your flight lands late, look at the last two of the night, the 23:59 and the 1:20, which on that timetable reached Gijón at 00:44 and 2:05.
Staying for weeks: the CONECTA card
For a one-off journey, paying on board is enough. But if you are spending several weeks in Asturias, the Consortium's CONECTA card changes the sums: it is personal, costs 2 euros, deducted from the first top-up, and you never pay more than 20 euros a month for all your journeys, according to the Consortium.
You apply through the CTA CONECTA app with an identity document (Spanish DNI, an ID card from a European Union country, a TIE residence card or a passport), and it is posted to the address you give; normal delivery takes a week. In other words, it will not cover your first trip from the airport, but it will cover what comes after.
Taxi: priced by the kilometre, and mind the return leg
There is a permanent taxi rank at the airport. Aena publishes the official maximum fares for intercity taxis, taxes included: 0.71 euros per kilometre by day and 0.85 euros at night and on public holidays, with a minimum charge of 4.34 and 5.21 euros, and an hour's waiting at 18.29 and 21.96 euros. The night rate applies from 22:00 to 7:00 on weekdays, from 15:00 on Saturdays and on 24 and 31 December, and all day on Sundays and public holidays.
The detail worth knowing: under those same conditions, the whole car is hired and, unless agreed otherwise, the journey is charged as a closed circuit back to the starting point, by the shortest route. Put simply, the taxi's return to the airport may be counted too. The fares are maximums and can be lowered by mutual agreement, so the sensible thing is to ask the price to Gijón before getting in.
Aena does not publish a fixed price from the airport to Gijón, so we do not give one here either.
By car
Aena lists five car hire companies at the airport: Avis, Europcar, Hertz, OK Rent a Car and Sixt. Gijón is about 40 kilometres away; Avilés is 14 and Oviedo 47, according to Turismo Asturias.
If you are coming to stay in Gijón, think first about whether you need the car: the centre is walkable, the city buses go almost everywhere and there are trains to Oviedo, Avilés and Cudillero. We cover it in Gijón without a car. And if you are coming for the hospital, getting to Cabueñes lists the lines that stop at the door.
