In October 2026 the exhibition hall at La Pedrera, in the Milà family's former apartment, is showing Anselm Kiefer from 2 October 2026 to 24 January 2027. It isn't free: general admission costs 16 euros and it opens from 10:00 to 19:30. It is separate from the building visit; the combined ticket costs from 35 euros.

There are two different visits under the same roof at La Pedrera. One is Gaudí's building, with the rooftop and the attic. The other is the exhibition hall of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, on the main floor, the Milà family's former home. In October 2026 that hall is showing Anselm Kiefer. Here is what you'll see, what it costs, when it opens and the activities around it, which is what someone spending a few months in the city gets most out of.

What's on now: Anselm Kiefer, until 24 January

The exhibition is called «The Secret Life of Plants. Anselm Kiefer in the Grothe Collection» and runs from 2 October 2026 to 24 January 2027. La Pedrera presents it as the first show in Barcelona devoted to the work of Kiefer, a German artist born in Donaueschingen in 1945.

It brings together around forty pieces, most from Hans Grothe's private collection and the rest from other private collections, with painting, sculpture, installation, photography and artist's books. Part of it is his set of display cases titled Opus Magnum. The curator is Walter Smerling. The hall has a musical itinerary and other resources you download with a QR code, so bring headphones.

The hall: the Milà apartment

The main floor was the home of the Milà-Segimon couple and is now the foundation's exhibition hall. The website explains that, exceptionally, twice a year that floor opens to all visitors for the exhibitions, and that you can see original Gaudí features: the open floor plan, the stone columns, some with inscriptions, and the decorated ceilings that covered the rooms.

You can see the rhythm in the two previous shows: «Cristina Iglesias. Pasajes», from 9 October 2025 to 25 January 2026, and «The Nabis: From Bonnard to Vuillard», from 6 March to 28 June 2026. The next one, after Kiefer, has not yet been announced on the website.

Opening hours and price: it isn't free

The exhibition is open from 10:00 to 19:30, with last entry at 19:00. It is closed on 25 December 2026 and on 1 January 2027 it opens from 11:00 to 19:30.

General admission costs 16 euros. The reduced ticket, 12 euros, is for people over 65, students, people with a disability of 33 % or more and their accredited companions. Children under 12, people with a disability of 65 % or more and members of some professional art and museum associations go in free.

Is it separate from the building visit?

Yes. The exhibition has its own ticket, which doesn't include the rooftop or the attic. If you want both, there is the La Pedrera Art Season ticket, which combines general admission to the building with the exhibition: from 35 euros for an adult and 19.50 euros for residents of Catalonia, who show their DNI or NIE, padrón certificate or health card. Children aged 0 to 11 go free. Allow an hour and a half to two hours, with last entry at 19:00.

For someone living here for a few months, the maths is simple: with residency, seeing the building and the exhibition together costs little more than the exhibition alone. The rest of the building, its history and the 2-for-1 on the basic visit, are in our guide to La Pedrera for people who live in Barcelona.

Guided tours, concerts and families

The foundation runs guided tours of the exhibition, in Catalan, lasting an hour and costing 17 euros. The published dates are 21 October and 5 November at 18:00, already sold out, 27 October at 11:30 and 11 November at 18:00.

Outside the building there are two concerts linked to Kiefer. On 22 October at 19:30, at the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Trio Fortuny and clarinettist Cristina Mateo play Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time and Pärt's Fratres, with projections of the artist's work; from 18 euros. On 2 December at 19:30, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, a recital with Ensemble O Vos Omnes, Quartet Kebyart and the poet Manuel Forcano; from 25 euros.

For families, «Anselm Kiefer: Art Capsules and Secrets» is a visit to the exhibition with a workshop, in Catalan, for children aged 5 to 12: 24 October, 21 November, 29 December and 23 January, at 10:30, lasting an hour and 45 minutes, at 9.50 euros per person.

And if you're staying until summer, the rooftop hosts the Talents Jazz festival: the 2026 edition ran on Fridays from 29 May to 31 July, 20:00 to 22:15, for 42 euros including a visit to the attic and a glass of cava.
